MAHLE Receives CARA Certification for Battery Diagnostic Function E-SCAN

  • E-SCAN is available as a standard function on MAHLE diagnostic devices TechPRO® and CONNEX
  • MAHLE assessment of the battery condition of electric vehicles complies with European quality standards
  • Diagnosis is completed in less than two minutes without test drive
  • With this certification, MAHLE creates competitive advantage for repair shops, fleets, and used-vehicle dealers

The E-SCAN battery diagnostics function from MAHLE has received BATTERY HEALTH CHECK CARA APPROVED®certification. CARA (Car Remarketing Association Europe) is the European used car dealer´s association. The certificate confirms that the reliable assessment of the battery condition of electric vehicles by MAHLE complies with European quality standards. E-SCAN comes pre-installed as a standard function on the MAHLE diagnostic devices TechPRO® and CONNEX. It reads battery parameters such as the State of Health (SoH) directly via the vehicles standardized EOBD (European In-Board Diagnostic) interface and evaluates them based on the original manufacturer data. This is done in just two minutes, without time-consuming test drives. Analyses of battery health are crucial, among other things, for determining the resale value of used vehicles, as the high-voltage battery can account for up to 60 percent of the vehicle´s total value. With the E-SCAN certification now in place, MAHLE offers repair shops, fleet operators, and used car dealers a significant competitive advantage.

„We are pleased that the certification of E-SCAN further strengthens our role as a competent and strong partner in the growing market for used electric vehicles," said Felix-Matthias Walter, Director Service Solutions at MAHLE Lifecycle and Mobility. "On the one hand, our partners can quickly answer customer questions about the battery health of an electric vehicle without needing to make additional investments. On the other hand, the certification now ensures comparability and transparency across national markets."

For those looking for more than just simple EOBD data reading, the MAHLE E-HEALTH Charge battery diagnostics device is an excellent choice. It goes one step further by collecting data during a physical measurement of the battery while charging and combining this with the read-out OBD values. This enables an in-depth, manufacturer-independent SOH diagnosis in just 15 minutes. E-HEALTH Charge is designed for workshops that are already focusing on servicing electric vehicles. E-CHARGE 20 can be used flexibly in the workshop thanks to its wheels and can also be operated as a pure 22 kW DC charger.

MAHLE is working on creating a comprehensive ecosystem that intelligently connects knowledge, applications, and equipment in the workshop – with solutions that noticeably simplify day-to-day work. In addition to spare parts, modern workshop equipment, digital tools, and professional development offerings, special emphasis is placed on training in e-mobility and vehicle diagnostics, as technology in these areas is evolving at a particularly rapid pace.
