With decades of experience in the development and manufacturing of key components for marine propulsion systems, MAHLE will showcase its expertise in efficient and reliable maritime propulsion solutions at this year’s SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology) in Hamburg. As the market leader in pistons for high-speed ferries and a well-established partner to leading engine manufacturers worldwide, the company will present a Power Cell Unit (PCU) and a large-bore piston for marine engines. SMM will take place in Hamburg from September 1 to 4, 2026, and is one of the most important international meeting points for the maritime industry. MAHLE will be exhibiting in Hall A3, Booth 222.

The Power Cell Unit (PCU) on display at SMM is used in ferries, work boats, and power generation systems on large ships. It consists of a piston, piston pin, piston rings, and cylinder liner and converts fuel into electrical energy and. Thanks to the optimal interaction of these components, the PCU delivers an exceptionally high level of functionality and efficiency.

As another highlight at its exhibition stand, MAHLE will showcase a large-bore piston for marine engines. It is more than half a meter (65 cm) in height, 51 centimeters in diameter, and weighing around 300 kilograms, and is a component of a Power Cell Unit. It is also the largest serial-production marine piston in the portfolio of MAHLE. As the world’s largest piston manufacturer, MAHLE offers a broad range of solutions, including cast and electron-beam welded aluminum pistons as well as composite pistons with aluminum, cast iron, or steel skirts.
