E-drives are tested under real-life conditions in Fellbach near Stuttgart.
MAHLE Powertrain has opened a new facility for the testing and characterisation of cells, modules and battery packs, including steady state testing of open circuit voltage, storage capacity and thermal characterisation tests (e.g. voltage response under high discharge, thermal behaviour and internal resistance).
Mild hybrid vehicles employing 48V systems are expected to achieve significant growth in most major automotive markets in the near future. A 48V architecture brings a number of significant technical benefits to the vehicle and the battery itself will be much smaller, lighter and lower cost than high voltage alternatives.

MAHLE Powertrain has two vehicle chassis dynos, fully equipped with the latest emissions equipment. Chamber one is a fully barometric chamber with climatic capabilities from -40°C to +60°C with altitude capability of up to 5000m. Chamber two is a standard ambient facility that can achieve -20°C to +60°C with solar loading capabilities.
